20 oz Halcyon "In Their World...On Their Terms" Tumbler. Featuring "Violet", a dolphin from our study area, photographed by Ruth Petzold.
Dolphin featured: VIOLET
Current Age Class: Mottled (2016)
First seen: Two-tone (1998)
Identification Marks: Violet has two small nicks towards the top of the trailing edge of her dorsal fin. She also has an asterisk like spot pattern on her right flank down towards her belly.
Violet is the offspring of Venus, who was first seen in 1992, and is part of the Southern group of animals. We first saw Violet as a young two-tone back in 1998. When we last saw her in 2016, she was an adult in her first year in the fused age class. Violet has been a mother to three offspring, Verde, Vinca, and Vivid. Currently Vinca and Vivid are still with us. However, the calf in the above photo is not hers. She seems to be babysitting Infinity’s calf, a two-tone first observed in 2009 named Infinite. Violet still hangs out with the Southern group on Little Bahama Bank and we look forward to seeing her this season.
